structuring your team

Once you have recruited your ideal candidates, with unique talents and characteristics, you can begin to structure your ideal team.  As you do this you need to recognise the different types of team and your own capabilities to build, manage, lead and motivate that team.

Some areas for consideration and questions you could ask yourself as you embark upon this task may include:

  • Why do companies need teams?
  • What are the various definitions of teams?
  • Can you transform an existing workgroup into an effective team?
  • Do you need to create a team based on technical skill?
  • Have you properly thought through the team purposes and objectives?
  • How will you select the team members and leaders?
  • How often do you want to the team to meet; to provide progress reports?
  • How will you deal with conflict and challenge within the team?
  • Have you received proper training in how to assess team performance?
