Your career

preparing for interview

Once invited for interview:

  • Agree the location, date, time of your interview and ask for written confirmation.
  • Request the name and position of whoever will be carrying out the interview.
  • Request directions for travel and/or parking.

Prepare by researching useful background information:

  • Use the internet, company databases, newspapers to look up the company history and financial details. You might find the following links useful:

www.bbc.co.uk

www.companieshouse.co.uk

www.economist.com

www.fastcompany.com

www.ft.com

www.google.com

  • You should develop a firm understanding of how the company has evolved, where it is based, its operations, locations, products and whether it is and will be financially profitable.

Know yourself:

  • Consider your long-term goals and set short/medium-term goals that will help you to achieve them.
  • Re-read your CV and any materials connected with the role, such as job descriptions.
  • Identify your main strengths and weaknesses.
  • Be prepared to explain why these are such, and how you are overcoming weaknesses.
  • Think of the questions that you may be posed, and those you want to ask.
  • Make reference notes.
